Our gas safety check is primarily designed to detect leaks in gas appliances including boilers, cookers, and fireplaces to ensure they are working correctly and safely.
We check for corrosion or rust in the pipes that are the source for gas leaks. Connections and exhaust vents are inspected to make sure they are clear and the appliance can vent correctly.
Do you hear a hissing sound or is the smell of sulfur present? Gas companies add a component called Mercaptan to help detect the otherwise odorless threat. This smell will be overwhelming for larger gas leaks.
Smaller leaks are more easily detected using a manometer or water column gauge. We insert a tiny amount of pressure in the piping system. The system is then monitored for pressure drop to see if the line holds pressure properly or not.
